The Recipe Book Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 6, 2026

The Recipe Book is built to keep your recipes, recipe photos, shopping lists, pantry items, and meal plans under your control. The app does not sell personal data and does not include third-party advertising or tracking.

Data You Add

You may add recipe links, recipe text, recipe photos, OCR results, ingredients, cooking steps, tags, shopping list items, pantry items, and meal plans. This content is used to provide the app's recipe library, import, planning, cooking, and shopping features.

iCloud Sync

When iCloud sync is enabled, your recipe data is stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit services so it can sync across your devices. The Recipe Book does not operate a separate recipe database for your private iCloud data.

Public Recipe Website

The public recipe website is separate from your private iOS recipe library. Public recipe discovery content is stored for the website experience. Site curation tools are restricted to the site owner and are not available to regular users.

Camera And Photos

The app asks for camera or photo library access only when you choose to scan, import, or attach a recipe image. OCR processing is used to extract text from the recipe image you selected.

In the iOS app, recipe photo text recognition, recipe cleanup, classification, tagging, categorization, and image checks run with Apple platform features and local processing when available. The current iOS app does not send selected recipe images, pasted recipe text, recipe links, or extracted recipe drafts to a third-party AI provider for recipe import processing.

The website also includes server endpoints used for legacy or compatibility import workflows. If those website endpoints are enabled for a request, selected recipe images, pasted recipe text, recipe links, or extracted recipe drafts may be sent to The Recipe Book's server and OpenAI only to transcribe, clean up, classify, tag, categorize, or verify recipe content. Those endpoints are not used for advertising or tracking.

Private Sharing

If you choose to share a recipe or recipe list by invitation or share link, the information you select may be visible to the people you share it with. Private sharing is separate from the public recipe discovery website, and you control what you share.

Tracking And Advertising

The Recipe Book does not include third-party advertising, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not sell personal data.
