How to organize recipes from screenshots, TikTok, and family notes

Why a camera roll is a bad recipe box

A screenshot feels saved until you need the one with the yogurt sauce and cannot remember which trip it came from. A TikTok disappears under newer videos. A note that says "the soup with the red lid" is not a method you can follow on a Tuesday.

Those finds are real recipes. They are just stored in places that cannot answer "what can I cook with chicken this week?" A digital recipe book can, once the recipe is text you can search rather than a picture you have to recognize.

Put each kind of recipe where you can find it

The Recipe Book takes recipes in the forms people already have. You do not retype the whole thing first. You import a draft, check it, and then file it in the library with tags, cook time, servings, and the source.

1. For a normal recipe page, paste the URL or use the iPhone share sheet and choose Save to The Recipe Book. The share extension is how iOS hands the page to the app.
2. For a TikTok or YouTube-style video, paste that link the same way. The import keeps the source link so you can open the video again later.
3. For a screenshot, cookbook photo, or family note on paper, import from the camera or the photo library. If the recipe is cut off, add more than one image. Multi-image scans are stitched into one recipe draft.
4. For a note you already typed, paste the text. The app turns pasted text into a draft with ingredients and steps you can edit.
5. Read the draft before you trust it. Check the title, ingredients, steps, servings, and source. Photo import can use an optional transcription step for hard-to-read notes, and it falls back to on-device OCR if that step is unavailable, including when you are offline.
6. Save it into the library. Search, section filters, and tags live on the recipe, so the next search is for an ingredient or a meal, not a month in Photos.

Cook from the library, not the screenshot

Once a recipe is in the library, cook mode walks the steps and can keep the screen awake, which matters when your hands are messy. Add the recipes you will actually cook to the weekly meal plan, then rebuild one shopping list grouped by grocery department. Each shopping line keeps the recipe it came from.

If iCloud is on for the app, recipes sync in your private iCloud database. The phone library still works if you have not set up web sync. A saved community recipe such as Green Goddess Pasta is the same kind of record: ingredients, steps, and a source, ready to cook.
